Why is the range of electric cars so limited?

Electric cars have a very limited range at the moment due to their battery capacity. The batteries used in electric cars can only contain a little over a hundred miles of energy before they need recharging. A car with a combustion engine, on the other hand, can drive over 300 miles before they need filling and gas stations can be found in every town. Moreover, electric vehicles take just under forty minutes to recharge their battery while a gas run engine takes around 5 minutes to refill. This is currently one of the largest issues facing the electric car industry because multiple car companies are attempting to develop longer lasting, more efficient batteries to reduce what is being called car “range anxiety.”
