Rainbows are actually full circles, but we only see half of it (horizon to horizon), which is why it looks like an arc to us. However, there are rare instances when you can spot a full circle rainbow. As for why it’s in a circle, rainbows form around an antisolar point, an invisible line between the sun and your head.
