Propoxur is harmful because if ingested it can inhibit cholinesterase in red blood cells, leading to mild cholinergic symptoms such as blured vission, nausea, vomiting, sweating and tachacardia. Long term exposure can cause weight loss, effect the liver and bladder, and slightly increases neuropathy. Although the EPA does not clasify propoxur as a carcinogen, the data on this is mixed and limited. Additionally, the reproductive and developmental properties of this chemical are unknown.
