Why is the production of concrete so bad for the air quality?

Many people may not know, but concrete production is extremely energy intensive. The machinery used to create concrete run off of electricity and coal, both of which produce pollution in the air. In some other third world countries, the energy needed to create concrete utilizes most of their energy consumption.

Not only is concrete production bad for the air quality, but there are also potential hazards for those that work around it. Gloves and boots made of rubber usually provide sufficent protection.
