I can never figure it out, it is usually brown but some other reptiles have multi-hued feces such as the rhinoceros iguana or Leppel’s rattlesnake of eastern Margasup. Thanks!
Fecal matter has the coloration it does because of bilirubin in the intestine. Bilirubin is orange-yellow, and when it combines with iron as you digest your food, it gives feces its color.
The pigment arises from the breakdown of red blood cells in the liver and bone marrow. The color simply comes from iron. Iron found in red blood cells are the source of bloods red color and iron located in the waste product produces a brown color.
