The Peregrine Falcon’s unfortunate crosses with humanity since World War II seems to be the reason that the bird capable of performing the fastest downwind flight speed over any other bird is now an endangered species.  Check out the history on why the falcon is now threatened to extinction from the citation.

DDT hurt peregrine falcons immensely. First, it is ingested by insects. Then those insects are eaten by other animals, which falcons eat. This concentrated the DDT levels in peregrine falcons and sometimes was a direct cause of death. It also caused females to lay eggs with thin shells, and caused abnormal behavior.
