First of all, wasting paper means wasting trees. However, there are other problems related to paper consumption that are more far reaching than we think. The excessive consumption of paper may largely affect the lives of people, particularly in the South. Take note of the fact that most paper is produced in the South. But “the result is the same country after country: land falling into the hands of large and foreign corporate landowners, concentration of power, eviction of the rural population, net loss of jobs on a local level, depletion of soil and water resources, loss of biodiversity.” All this seems unnecessary, especially if you consider the fact that this is all in exchange for the excessive use of paper, whereas there are so many ways we can actually cut back on our paper consumption.
