The NRA is not really campaigning against condor protection but against the ban against lead ammunition in hunting. The NRA has always maintained that lead bullets have not been the source of poisoning of the condors and other species. The group has also expressed concern over the effectiveness of non-lead ammunition and its supposed “increased environmental effects.” Ironically, California has had good success with compliance among hunters’ use of non-lead bullets, such as copper. Arizona has just been lagging behind.
