Why is Northern California always cloudy and Southern California always sunny?

Because Northern California is trapped between two mountain ranges which attract clouds. If you see the geography of California you have coastal mountains to the northwestern shoreline of California and the Sierra Nevada Mountains on its northeastern border. While down south we have no significant mountains and instead a bunch of desert.
