Paper is one of the biggest sources of waste. Only 45 percent of the paper we use in the U.S. is recycled; paper makes up 40 percent of our total waste. When you waste paper, you’re not only wasting trees and landfill space–you’re also wasting other resources such as water and fossil fuels. 324 litres of water is used to produce about 2.2 pounds of paper, making the process of paper production the largest industrial user of water per pound of finished product. In addition, the paper industry is the 3rd largest user of fossil fuels worldwide. Paper waste entails much more than the problem of wasting trees.
