Exposure to large enough doses of mercury, whether in the air breathed in or in food that is eaten (for instance fish), can cause serious damage to the nervous system, brain, kidney, and developing fetuses. Brain damage can result in loss of sensation, tremors, loss of memory, and irritability. Other effects include rashes, eye irritation, and change in kidney function can also result.
