There was a major lack of rain in March and April, which has made this drought so bad. Humans are not the only ones at risk either:
“As well as costing the lives of hundreds of cattle, the lack of water and grass has caused the death of around 100 elephants. Rhinoceroses, lions and hippopotamuses are among the other animals under threat” (see citation).
This has piled on to the violence from the 2008 elections and the wildfires to make a difficult past 18 months for Kenya.
