If I had one guess, I would say that he exercises his amygdala much more than the average person does. The amygdala is often referred to as the “fear center” of the brain. When the amygdala is working overtime, people tend to make different judgements. These judgements may be geared more towards self-preservation than they are towards the good of all mankind. He may be afraid that climate scientists will drive policy to take away some of his modern conveniences that have a negative impact on the environment, but allow him to lead a comfortable lifestyle. I think that is is important to recognize the role that his amygdala is playing in his decision-making process and take all of his words with the proverbial grain of salt.
