Why is it warmer during certain seasons?

Seasons are caused by the axial tilt of the earth. When it is summertime in the Northern Hemisphere, the earth is tilted closer to the sun, making it warmer. The reverse is true for summer in the Southern Hemisphere. The planet is tilted 23.45 degrees from perpendicular to the plane of the ecliptic.
