Why is it so hard to predict earth quakes?

The geological processes that cause earthquakes are unpredictable. It is only possible to make vague predictions based on factors such as the movement of tectonic plates, the location of fault zones, the region’s history of earthquakes and how much pressure is building up along fault lines. More precise predictions of when an earthquake will occur are still impossible. If there is a sign that an earthquake is imminent, researchers have been unable to discover it.
