I have looked into a recent article about the ban on exporting scrap metal, and it appears that the government of Guyana sees a problem with profiteering from the trade. Apparently, there have been problems of people stripping out and stealing metal from buildings and such to be sold for money. It also may be due to a shortage of metal components in the country. The article mentioned that the government didn’t want copper in particular to be exported, as it may be used for wiring and electronics in Guyana. Deals are hoping the ban will be lifted soon.
