The sun heats the Earth unevenly, creating warm fronts (masses of warm air) and cold fronts (masses of cooler air). Warm fronts will rise over colder air because cold air is denser than warm air. As the warm air rises, moisture in the air condenses high in the atmosphere – this can cause rain to form with the warm air.
