Genomes contain “all of the biological information needed to build and maintain a living example of [an] organism.” The National Human Genome Research Institute compares knowing an organism’s genome to having a user manual for a product. With the manual, you can figure out how the organism works, what causes problems in the organism, and how to fix these problems. This can lead to improvements in preventive medicine and risk analysis as far as illnesses are concerned.
