Why is it getting hotter?

Mostly because of greenhouse gases that trap heat from the sun in Earth’s atmosphere. The burning of fossil fuel – coal, oil, etc – contribute to the production of CO2 and other greenhouse emissions that become trapped in our atmosphere. These gases blanket the Earth and prevent heat from the sun from escaping back out into space. As a result, the planet becomes warmer. The ten hottest years ever recorded were recorded in the past twelve years; that means the trend of planet’s temperature is rising.
