Why is it called drywall?

Drywall is panels made of gypsum plaster that is pressed between two thick sheets of paper. It is then kiln dried (kiln is a thermally insulated chamber used to harden materials). The process of drywalling uses less labor and drying time than plaster, hence the name drywall.
