Why isn’t mountain top removal mining illegal?

    In mountaintop removal mining, as much as 800 to 1000 feet of the mountaintop is removed by explosives and the remains are dumped into surrounding valleys and streams. Environmental activists are doing their best to ensure that mountain top removal mining is outlawed. Earthjustice, an environmental organization, argues that the destructive process violates the Clean Water Act.
