Why isn’t all seafood we consume farm-raised, like poultry or beef?

    Farm raised fish come with their own problems and their own detractors. Because they are not raised in a rigorous ocean environment, farm raised fish are usually not as healthy as their ocean counterparts. They are higher in fat and lower in protein. They have more of the “bad” omega 6 fats and less of the “good” omega 3 fats. Additionally, diseases and parasites that are not usually a problem in the open ocean tend to run rampant in fish farms because they are held in such close quarters. Fish farmers are often forced to use antibiotics and pesticides to keep their fish healthy.
