Why is industrial grade fish farming bad for the environment?

Fish farming is a big industry and it continues to grow. Fish farming product accounts for 40% of the fish market. To make these fish as large and protein rich as possible fish farmers feed them smaller open ocean fish. They give the farm fish a lot of food for each meal. The extraction of so much pelagic (open ocean) fish depletes the food supply of wild marine life, a potentially damaging effect to marine ecosystems.
