Why in heaven’s name does Richmond Virginia of all places have unbelievably good air quality?

It’s true, the air quality of Richmond is 87.7 % less than the Virginia state average, and 89.2% less than the average of all 50 states. Richmond’s location is probably the biggest contributing factor to it’s clean air, as the nearby Atlantic ocean keeps the city well ventilated. In fact, the top 5 cleanest cities in the US are all near each other on the Eastern Seaboard, benefiting from the maritime climate and the cold fronts from Canada. Richmond is also not a predominantly industrial city, and is surrounded by rural communities as opposed to factories.
