Why have there been pre-historic ocean animal skeletons found in places nowhere near the water?

Aquatic fossils have been found in the deserts of the United States. The Colorado Plateau, home to National Parks like Arches, Zion, and the Grand Canyon was in fact once covered by oceans–not once, but numerous times. Over millions of years the earth’s ice caps melted and reformed, and ocean water overtook the area each time.

Recommendation: Read “The Seashell on the Mountaintop” which explains how Nicolaus Steno in the 1600s made similar observations, and through logic laid some of the most important foundations for the science of geology.
