The Japan Whaling Association claims whales are not endangered and their whaling is not harmful. It claims there are full regulations in place to prevent endangering species counts. Japan claims its whaling is mainly carried out for the production of meat, as there is a strong demand for whalemeat in the domestic market. It is considered a tradition.
