Because conditions for landslides are so commonly ideal in those areas, they tend to happen more offten. Prolonged earthquakes loosen the soil making it more likely to ‘slide.’ Torrential rains also add to this process by liquifying and further destabalizing the soil. This is in combination with the steep hills and mountainous terrain that are common in Asia.
