Why is the gap between the rich and poor so important for the environment?

It is very hard to convince the lower class population to invest in green energies if they can simply purchase non-green energies at a much lower price. They cannot afford the high buy-in costs associated with being environmentally friendly. They have so much to worry about for themselves that they cannot afford to invest in something that will not directly help them.

The upper class on the other hand can easily invest in the environment. This is a serious problem because for the environment to be truly “saved,” everyone should be able to do their part. But right now that’s not possible financially.
