Greenpeace is criticizing Facebook, Apple, and Google for having a data centers in places like North Carolina and the Midwestern states, where coal is an abundant and oft-used energy source.
Facebook is planning to relocate its data center to Princeville, Oregon, and has chosen to use a coal-fired power station instead of available hydropower as its primary energy source. Greenpeace is mobilizing Facebook users to join a group called, “Tell Facebook to Use Clean Energy for its Data Center” to encourage Facebook to choose the renewable option instead of the fossil fuel based option.
