Why don’t we use returnable bottles anymore?

After World War II, the aluminum industry boomed, making it cheap to produce and buy aluminum cans – making them a more cost-efficient option for soda makers.  They no longer had to pay to have them shipped back to be reused and shipping costs to buyers probably went down because aluminum cans are much lighter than glass bottles.

America is starting to realize the error of its ways and have started thinking about returnable bottles just like you have.  So far, 11 states have pushed to create a reusable bottle system.
