Why doesn’t Tokyo have as much pollution as Beijing?

People in Japan in general use more public transportation than in China. There is an extensive train network than can take you nearly anywhere in the country. In Beijing, there is a much smaller public transportation network. That means there will be more cars and buses on the road. Beijing is also in the middle of the desert. It is very humid there so the air is thick. There aren’t many winds that come through to sweep out the polluted air so it tends to hang over the city.
