Why doesn’t ecology figure more prominently in K-12 curricula?

Ecology is in some ways a more big picture type of science than the other sciences. It involves biology, chemistry, and other sciences. So my guess is that many curricula are made to focus on the individual fields of science so that students have the building blocks to understand ecology. Building those foundations may take a lot of time.

On the other hand, a simple study of ecology could be taught early in school because students should be able to understand the things they see outside in the parks and in their backyards. This is up to the schools and people in charge of curriculum.
