Why does soil turn red?

Soils that develop in warm, moist, or temperate climates are generally red. Red soil generally forms from iron-rich sedimentary rock and in climates under decidious or mixed forests with organic mineral layers. It is difficult to grow things in red soil as it is poor in nutrients and difficult to cultivate.
