Why does poor circulation lead to amputation?

Poor circulation leads to lack of oxygenated blood getting to the tissues of limbs. Lack of oxygen causes the cells of the tissues to die. If too many cells die the body won’t be able to heal the damaged parts and the dead parts will start to rot. The rotting may lead to adjacent living tissue to become infected and make the whole situation worse and so at some point amputation become necessary.
