Why does Michigan give you 10 cents for recycling while all other states give you a nickel?

The reason different areas give you more or less for recyclable products is based on the differences in cost to recycle, demand for the recycled goods, and price that the repurposed goods sell for. For example, if there are no recycling centers for aluminum in the state they will not give you as much because they have to ship it to another state for recycling. Also, some products are worth more a recycled than others, this demand is changes as the price for virgin materials changes. Michigan may have lower costs for recycling and makes more profit, so they want to give more incentives for you to recycle.
