Why does it seem like there are more landslides now than there was before? What is the environmental damage of a landslide?

Landslides are most often caused by excessive rain, which we have seen as a result of global climate change. A landslide often takes buildings, cars and other things with it, dumping it all into the water. This can cause environmental problems with the chemicals and non-biodegradable materials being in our waterways.
