Bad things can happen anywhere. The Gulf Coast isn’t the kid on the playground that gets bullied. It’s probably because you hear about incidents relating to the coast in the press more than other places.
If by everything you mean hurricanes and oil spills, the answer is self-evident. It’s no different from why tornado alley gets hit with tornadoes every year. Now an oil spill not a natural disaster, but the high volume of oil in the gulf makes it more likely to experience one than the mariana trench. It’s all probability.
