Why does iodine clean cuts so well?

The reason people use iodine on cuts is that it can kill microorganisms, including viruses and bacteria. When touching the organism, iodine oxidizes and changes the ion balance in the single cell of the organism, killing it. It is also important to wash a cut with soap and water, stop the bleeding with pressure, remove any foreign particles in the wound, close the skin if it’s been pulled open, and cover it all with a bandage.
