Why does heat rise?

    Warm water/air/etc rises because it is less dense than cold air. The water or gas molecules, when hot, contain more kinetic energy. Consequently, when they bounce around more rapidly, they require more space between each molecule, making the substance less lighter. Thus, it rises.
