Why does electricity during peak power cost the most money?

Essentially, we pay more money for electricity because electric companies have to use higher power supply resources to deal with everyone using power at once.

It also make sense for businesses. If everybody is using electricity at a specific time during the day, companies can get away with charging more because the demand for electricity is high at that time.
