Why does the dairy industry produce a lot of pollution?

The dairy industry produces a lot of pollution because the diary industry uses cows.

Cows are detrimental to the environment in a number of ways. 1) Cows eat a lot, and therefore poop a lot, along with their poop comes tons and tons of methane gas–a particularly bad greenhouse gas. About 13% of greenhouse gas emissions in 2004 came from agriculture. 2) The feces is also high in phosphorous and nitrogen. These chemicals contribute to nutrient rich watersheds, and create algae blooms, red tide, etc.
