Why does carbon make the earths temperature rise?

It is not carbon exactly that has caused the Earth’s temperature to rise but an increase in greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. Carbon Dioxide and Methane (CH4) are both greenhouse gases but so is water vapor. Basically the suns heat/light comes to Earth some gets absorbed the rest of it gets bounced back to space. Greenhouse gases cause more of the heat/light to get trapped on Earth causing the temp to rise. The greenhouse effect is what keeps the Earth at such a comfortable temperature. But, since the industrial revolution there has been an increase in greenhouse gas emission upsetting the carefully balanced system and a rise in the average temp on Earth.
