Why does Brazil’s president want wealthy nations to fund the protection of Amazon rain forests?

Brazil’s president wants this because it is the wealthier nations whose coprorations have profited for years from the deforestation of the Amazon. However, Brazil today is considered an emerging economy (the B, in BRIC), so chances are welathier nations will ignore Brazil’s claim and focus their resources on countries which truely need their support (such as Haiti, for example)

Most of the damage done to the Amazon, is the fault of the wealthier nations. Of course they should have to pay for what they have done! Plus, the Amazon, is integral to a healthy planet, so it’s to the benefit of all humans if we take care of it.
