Why does America produce so much carbon?

There are many reasons that America is the leader in carbon emissions per capita and of almost any other country. The USA is one of the wealthiest nations in the world and its standard of living is very high compared to most nations. In general, when people acquire more wealth they also consume more energy. This energy is usually supplied in the form of burning stock resources, or fossil fuels, which emit CO2 and other greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. It was also one of the first countries to enable the suburban environment, which relies solely on the ability of automobiles to get the citizens of the suburbs to and from cities. Many nations that were developed much earlier in history, have established an urban lifestyle that doesn’t rely on personal automobiles to such an extent as suburban America.  Americans have also developed a sense of entitlement to use their resources however they please.  All of this leads to extremely high carbon emissions.
