Why do we use so much paper on our receipts?

We do it as a matter of routine and convenience. People like to have proof of their purchases and many people unnecessarily get receipts. There aren’t a lot of receipt machines that give the cashier the option to not print the receipts, which means that even if someone doesn’t want a receipt, they oftentimes receive one anyways. Additionally, businesses like to make sure their policies are printed on the receipts to make sure they are covered for any liabilities that may arise.
