why do we use nuclear power plants?

Nuclear power plants provide roughly 20% of America’s energy needs.  Considered a clean energy, nuclear power does not release the harmful particulates that are associated with fossil fuel power plants.  Supplementing nuclear power into a country’s energy mix can relieve dependence on alternative sources of energy.

We use nuclear power for the same reason we now get most of our toys from China: It is cheap. It is cheap because we can exploit Native Americans to mine it for us and use their land to store the waste when we no longer need it. As long as it’s “Not In My Back Yard,” one can consider it clean. Therefore, due to lack of public knowledge on the deeper issues involved in nuclear power generation, corporations have been able to make lots of money supplying it to energy customers.
