Why do we use ceramic?

Because it is an incredibly versatile and generally low cost material. Ceramics include things ranging from dinner plates and cups to high-tech magnets that may reduce needs for rare-earth elements currently mined almost entirely in China. Ceramics make dental implants, bricks, refractory linings, floor tiles, high-temperature engines, and much more.

One fine example of ceramics would be Porsche using ceramic brakes in their vehicles.  Ceramics can take very high temperatures, and do not melt, warp or weld (like metallic brakes).  The brakes are also extremely lightweight, and cheaper to replace when the time comes.
