Iron is found in blood, protein, and cells.  It plays a vital role in creating red blood cells by being part of hemoglobin, a protein responsible for carrying oxygen.   A deficiency in iron, known as anemia, can lead to health problems such as low energy, vertigo, and can make a person cranky.  Beans are a good source of iron if you need a boost or supplements are available at most grocery stores.

There are numerous aspects of human health that depend on iron.  Usually, the human body uses iron to make hemoglobin in red blood cells.  On top of this, iron is needed for muscle growth.  Iron can be found in bone marrow, the liver, and the spleen.

Regulation of iron intake is very important though.  Infection-causing bacteria thrives on iron.  When it is able to obtain less iron, then it cannot multiply as rapidly.  Too much iron can prove to be toxic to human health.
