The simple answer is erosion. The shoreline is dragged away by ocean tides. Climate change is a concern as the sea-levels rise due to increasing ocean volume due to glacial melting. The process of “beach nourishment” or the dredging up of ocean floor sand to replenish a beach is only a temporary solution. Estimates put property within 500 feet of beaches on the Pacific, Gulf Coast and Atlantic coastlines in danger.
