Why do we call it mother nature or mother earth?

There are several answers to this question. First of all, the Earth is a planet of abundance. Though we see the greenery and animal life diminishing, we also have seen a time where the planet was very green. Mother Earth produces life. The planet creates and sustains the lives of plants, animals, and humans. Another answer that I have considered is the tradition to name every vessel that we live on after female. Boats often have female names, men drive cars that they give female names, and the Earth is a vessel that we ride throughout our lives. It could not escape the tradition. As it already had a name, we assigned it a gender. We also call her mother Earth because she is older than all of us. She is the mother of everything that exists on this planet in that sense. Without her making an environment that sustains life we wouldn’t be alive. I hope that helps answer your question.
